Steve Smith Teaches in Santa Fe/DNA Songwriter Camp in May

April 3, 2017

Spring greetings from The Hard Road Trio!

We’re happy to see the flowers returning and some new songs sprouting up.  Spring beauty may be long in returning to some, but we are enjoying the perfection of New Mexico weather with a few heavy winds to keep us humble.

Saturday April 8th from 10am to 12pm Steve will be teaching a mandolin workshop at Bob Fisher’s in Santa Fe. On Sunday there’s an all level guitar workshop from 11am to 2pm.  Steve is also available for private lessons by arrangement with Bob. For reservations for either workshop or to schedule a private lesson on mandolin, octave mandolin or guitar, please contact him at See the calendar below for workshop fees. And many thanks to Bob Fisher for being such a great friend and music supporter!

The Trio and Tom Adler are getting geared up for our second Desert Night Acoustic Music Songwriter Weekend. You can expect the beautiful location and great food found at the Black Range Lodge along with the attention that we give to your musical growth. Our special guest this year is Martha Rowe, good friend and outstanding life coach, who is offering a session on “Exercising our Courage Muscles.” Anne will help us limber up our bodies before we get going with our courage and our imaginations, Steve will bring his keen insight as far as our chops go, and Tom will help us explore the fascinating architecture of good songwriting. Chris is on hand as your singing advocate and creativity instigator. This camp is a rare opportunity to get into songwriting, return to songwriting or bring your songs to a better place (song heaven!). Email Chris at or call her at 575.571.5298 for more info and reservations. Lodging and meals can be arranged by calling the Black Range Lodge at 575.895.5652. We limit enrollment to 15 people, so go ahead, take the plunge and call now!

Our video for “Whiskey in a Glass” directed by Orlando Martos was featured alongside other film shorts from New Mexico for a SRO crowd at the Las Cruces International Film Festival. It’s in contention for several other film festivals, so it may come to a big screen near you! Here’s the link if you’d just like to enjoy it right now:

Again, we’re grateful to all of you who host our shows, come out to shows, and support our music and live music in general. Now more than ever, the choice to leave a screen at home and go out to experience the magic of live music, makes a difference. The connection we make in music strengthens the fabric of society and brings beauty and truth to our lives.

Thanks to all of you,

Chris, Steve and Anne
